The Spanish government has labored to get the standards changed to accommodate the proper use of the Spainish language on URLs, as well as the characters associated with the other languages of Spain (Catalan, Valencian, Euskera and Galician):The registry has informed to allow names with the the characters 'á', 'à', 'é', 'è', 'í', 'ï' 'ó', 'ò', 'ú', 'ü', 'ñ', 'ç' y 'l.l'.
The 1.Phase, starting 2007 Oct 2, permits the owners of existing domains to order the version with special characters. During a 2.Phase everybody can register es-domains with special characters.
