In einer Zeit, in der auf Millionärsmessen feine Damen in Zobel aus Investment-Bankerkreisen noch ein passendes Diamantband für ihren Pudel suchen, haben diese Domains noch gefehlt: die Rich-Domains. Oder sollte es den Sponsoren gar nicht um materiellen Reichtum gehen, sondern darum ein geistreiches Angebot für geistreiche Kunden zu schaffen? Wie dem auch sei: Bald können sich Internet-User mit einer Rich-Domain schmücken. Die Idee der Rich-Domain kommt nicht etwa aus den USA - einem der üblichen Verdächtigen-sondern aus Deutschland. Jahrelang hat die Wirtschafts-Presse vom "kranken Mann am Rhein" geschrieben und jetzt stellt sich heraus: der Mann ist nicht "krank", sondern schlicht reich. "If I were a rich man, I would buy a rich-domain" (bitte mit der Melodie von "Anatevka" lesen oder singen...).
ICANN gab in einer als Ereignis inszenierten, im Internet weltweit übertragenen Pressekonferenz den Startschuß für die Neuen Top Level Domains. In der von ICANN veröffentlichten Liste von rund 1900 Bewerbungen findet man auch die Rich-Domains.
Hans-Peter Oswald von domainregistry.de erklärt dazu: "Die I-Registry Ltd. hat die Bewerbungsgebühr von 180.000 US-Dollar für die rich-domain entrichtet und eine formgerechte Bewerbung abgegeben. Damit ist zwar noch nicht sicher, ob ICANN auch diese Bewerbung annimmt, aber die rich-domains sind einen Schritt weiter."
Was ist die Aufgabe der rich-domains?
"The .RICH TLD has the mission to serve the needs of rich people and service providers for the rich (the Rich) worldwide in terms of privacy, communication, and exceptional services. We presume that “Rich” means an annual return or assets of or above US$ 1 million in order of having abundant possessions and especially material wealth.
As of today the Rich do not have an own namespace on the internet, although according to statistics (World wealth report Cap Gemini, 2011) about 11 Mio individuals belong to the Rich according to the criteria mentioned above. Like other linguistic (.CAT), language (.ASIA), communications-related (.TEL, .MOBI) or industry-related (.MUSEUM, .JOBS) communities they deserve an own namespace on the internet.The PURPOSE of the .RICH space is to cater to the unique needs and interests of wealthy individuals across the globe, and to provide a location where retailers of luxury goods and high-end services may interact with customers interested in exceptional lifestyles.
With each domain registration the registrant supports the concept of I-REGISTRY, the Registry operator of .RICH to donate parts of the proceeds to charitable causes. Donating to the needy is integral part among the Rich in many cultures around the world. The purpose of .RICH is to incorporate this spirit and extend it to the Internet. Registrants of .RICH have the opportunity and are expected to participate in the allocation of proceeds. In doing so, .RICH will support bringing more attention to the needy and activating further donations.The .RICH TLD and its domains names shall provide a unique digital identity, facilitate the exchange among the Rich on the one side and on the other side facilitate communication between the rich and service providers to the rich more intuitively. The .RICH TLD shall contribute to more quality and reliability in communication among rich people and relevant service providers on the Internet."
ICANN-Registrar Secura bietet Interessenten an, bereits jetzt ihre Namen und Begriffe unter den wichtigsten neuen Top Level Domains wie den rich-domains vorzuregistrieren. Die Vor-Registrierung ist kostenfrei, aber verbindlich. Wenn Secura den gewünschten Namen sichert, müssen die Kunden die Domaingebühr bezahlen.
