Securosys HSMs secure Swiss Payment transactions for another 10 years

(PresseBox) (Zürich, )
Securosys has been commissioned by SIX Interbank Clearing AG, which operates the SIC payment system by order and under the supervision of the Swiss National Bank (SNB), to produce, supply, and support dedicated Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) for an additional 10 years. The Securosys HSMs that have been in use since 2016, will be replaced by the latest generation over the next two years. These new HSMs offer enhanced performance and are ready for Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC).

A Proven Partnership

The IT infrastructure of the Swiss financial sector demands the highest security standards to defy the ever-growing and evolving threats. SIX Interbank Clearing operates the SIC interbank payment system, which processes transactions exceeding 100 billion Swiss francs daily. Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) are a crucial element of this security architecture, acting as digital vaults that generate, manage, and use cryptographic keys for encryption, decryption, digital signatures, and authentication of financial transactions.

As with the selection of HSMs for the Swiss payment system in 2016, several criteria were decisive for this renewal. The Securosys Primus HSM not only meets the most stringent security requirements, but also stands out for its high performance and quality. A key factor in the decision was the exclusive development and manufacturing of the devices in Switzerland.

Looking Ahead – New Models for New Challenges

"We are very pleased that Securosys' Primus HSM devices will continue to be used for the SIC system, a critical infrastructure of Switzerland," said Robert Rogenmoser, CEO of Securosys. "Our HSMs feature the most advanced security architecture and unparalleled performance, ensuring they meet the demands of the highly sensitive financial environment. We look forward to continuing our partnership with SIC."

Securosys proudly reflects on the successful collaboration. Given the dynamic nature of the financial sector, continuous development is essential to meet changing demands. Consequently, the proven HSM S-Series will be replaced by new models by 2026. These new models have been developed to address technological advancements and increased security and performance requirements, such as instant payments. They offer market-leading encryption and authentication performance, along with cryptographic algorithms that are secure against post-quantum computers. The transition to more innovative HSM models underscores Securosys' commitment to the security and efficiency of Switzerland's financial system.
