Orga Aviation rents out EFOY ProCube to wind park builders and operators to power devices during construction and maintenance

  • Fuel cells ensure reliable operation of obstacle lights and pumps. Also serve as back up power and as silent, covert energy source for mobile wind measurement systems
  • Months of reliable unattended operation, in any weather and season
  • Rental scheme enables significant logistic cost savings, flexible application scenarios and attractive return on investment
Orga Aviation, the Netherlands, provider of innovative helideck and obstruction lighting and navigation aids to the wind and aviation industries, has selected an SFC Energy fuel cell solution as reliable off-grid power source. The mobile EFOY ProCube by SFC Energy AG, leading international provider of hybrid power solutions to the stationary and mobile power generation markets, delivers fully automatic power to the obstruction lights during wind park construction and maintenance. The fuel cells are supplied by SFC Energy's Danish partner AWILCO, an experienced specialist for off-grid and grid-based power generation and distribution solutions.

At these critical times, aviation obstruction lights have to operate reliably even when the wind turbine is not connected to the grid. This poses severe challenges to operators, construction and maintenance teams: Generators require frequent refuelling and maintenance; the run-time of standard UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems often is too short.

As a stand-alone power source (or, as an option, in hybrid operation with solar modules), fuel cells automatically produce energy when needed. Connected to the battery that powers the obstacle lights, and equipped with sufficient amounts of their high energy density fuel, they can be left unattended for months on end, ensuring that the obstacle lights will always be on even when the wind turbine is off. An example: A device with an energy requirement of 100 Wh per day will be operated for over 100 days without any user intervention.

As a special benefit, Orga Aviation offers a rental scheme for the EFOY ProCube. Customers rent the power source at attractive prices as required - from just one single day to several weeks -, keeping their investment cost low while at the same time ensuring reliable operation of their obstruction lights.

"Our fuel cell solutions perfectly match with the sustainable business model of wind energy plants, while at the same time helping operators save money and time", says Peter Jakobsen of Orga Aviation. "They are the perfect solution for a big problem."

"We are proud to contribute to more safety, logistical excellence and lower operating costs for our customers fuel cell systems ", says Dr. Peter Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy. "They can be remote controlled, they are silent, environmentally friendly, and - most important of all - they provide power reliably, 24/7, in any season and weather."

In the wind industry, EFOY Pro fuel cells by SFC Energy also serve as silent, reliable power sources for wind measurement systems used in wind park planning. The fuel cells are used by wind turbine manufacturers, wind park planners and wind park operators all across Europe.
