- Portable JENNY 1200 fuel cell delivers reliable, fully automatic off-grid power in multi-day missions
- Major advantage: Over 50 kg weight savings per squad
- Initial order amounts to a total value of over EUR 700,000
- Option agreed for additional units with a value of more than EUR 4.4 mio.
- Marks third order of SFC fuel cell products by defense forces within a week.
SFC Energy AG (F3C.DE), a leading provider of hybrid power solutions to the stationary and mobile power generation markets, has received an order from an international defense force for the delivery of SFC Energy's JENNY portable fuel cells for use by soldiers in multi-day missions. The order is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2016 and has a total value of over EUR 700,000. In addition, the Company has provided the international defense force with an option to purchase additional units subsequent to the initial delivery.
Dr. Peter Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy, stated, "We are now gaining traction in our military and security efforts, largely driven by the previous success of our fuel cell products operating in the field. In the last week, we have secured three separate orders from militaries across the world. This order is the result of many years of excellent cooperation between the international defense force and SFC Energy. We see a lot of potential for our products and will continue to further extend our cooperation with defense organizations worldwide."
All three contracts of the past week as well as the ongoing need of defense forces for service, stock and spare parts broaden the basis to reach a level sustainable revenues and profits. A profound change of the geopolitical situation over the last 12 months drives fundamental demand for defense and security systems.
The Company believes that its recent defense wins have been driven by the transition of modern military forces to lightweight portable power solutions for the devices they carry. Optimum soldier safety and operability depend upon this reliable availability of power. Conventional solutions are limited: Batteries alone cannot meet the requirements in multi-day missions, forcing soldiers to carry large and heavy spare batteries - weight and volume not available for water, food or ammunition. Generators require maintenance and produce detectable signatures. Solar modules are weather dependent. SFC fuel cells are a silent, lightweight and non-detectable alternative.
The portable JENNY 1200 fuel cell with a nominal power of 50 W builds on SFC Energy's award winning DMFC (direct methanol fuel cell) technology for defense and security applications and completes the wide range of SFC Energy's successful product portfolio with its smaller sister, the JENNY 600S (25 W nominal power). Advantages of the systems are a major reduction in the number of spare batteries to be carried by individual soldiers, up to 80% weight reduction in a 72-hour mission, fully automatic and silent battery recharge, no maintenance required, no detectable heat signature; and ultimately lower total cost of ownership.
JENNY 1200 uses pure methanol, available in three convenient fuel cartridge sizes, thus offering market-leading weight savings over fuel cell generator technologies with a conventional methanol/water blend.
Like all SFC Energy's power generation and distribution products for defense applications, the JENNY 1200 integrates seamlessly into the existing SFC defense product family and into all SFC energy networks and power solutions.
