Bereits Freitag Nacht warnten Sunbelt-Mitarbeiter unter anderem eine Familie aus Alabama, USA, von der sämtliche persönlichen und finanziellen Daten im Keylogger gespeichert waren. Der Vater hat gerade eine Herzoperation hinter sich und die bescheidenen finanziellen Ressourcen der Familie waren ersthaft in Gefahr.
Entdeckt wurde der Datenklau als Patrick Jordan, ein Experte für CWS (CoolWebSearch), absichtlich einen PC mit Spyware infizierte und beobachtete, dass die Maschine zum Spam-Zombie wurde und sich bei einem Remote-Server meldete. Durch eine Rückverfolgung des Servers fand er den unglaublich raffinierten kriminellen Diebesring.
Zum Schutz empfehlen die Sicherheitsexperten von Sunbelt jedem, der noch keine Firewall installiert hat, dies schnellstmöglich nachzuholen. Sunbelt berichtet auch in seinem Blog unter von den Ereignissen.
