Once again there was a significant gold discovery, this time in Norway.
The "gold find of the century", as it is called, was found by a Norwegian with a metal detector. There were nine pendants, ten gold beads and three rings. They were found on the southern island of Rennesoey near the city of Stavanger. Presumably the jewelry was worn about 1,500 years ago, it was probably a very striking design, worn by the most powerful in society at the time. Anything older than 1537 and coins older than 1650 must be surrendered in Norway, as they are considered state property. In any case, it is a very unusual discovery for the Scandinavian continent. On old pendants is usually depicted the Norse god Odin, as he heals the sick horse of his son. In the case of the findings now, an injured horse is depicted. The horse stands for illness and suffering, also for the hope of healing and a long life.
When it comes to gold from Scandinavia, one thinks of Sweden or Finland. Norway is not so much on the screen. Gold was mined commercially in Norway between 1759 and 1900 in eastern Norway. Gold mining has also been going on near Bindal for a few years. Perhaps there is still some gold to be discovered in Scandinavia. Because especially Sweden has similar geographic conditions as California or Alaska. Whether there is even still the possibility of a gold rush is uncertain. Where particularly large gold discoveries lure today is, for example, South Africa.
Here, Sibanye-Stillwater - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/sibanye-stillwater-ltd/ - operates as an international precious metal mining company. The company also produces platinum metals in addition to gold here and also in the USA. The sought-after battery metals have also been in the spotlight for some time. For example, Sibanye-Stillwater owns a lithium project in Finland.
Sticking with Africa, Zimbabwe likes Caledonia Mining - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/caledonia-mining-corporation-plc/ - with its producing Blanket gold mine. The company pays dividends. Around 75,000 to 80,000 ounces of gold are expected to be produced in 2023.
