How gold deposits are ultimately created

(PresseBox) (Herisau, )
Now there are new insights into how gold comes to the earth's surface and how gold deposits are formed.

It is known that certain zones produce very gold-rich ore deposits. More and more research is being carried out into exactly how this happens. So far, an estimated 212,582 tons of gold have been mined. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, there are still around 50,000 tons of mineable gold in the ground. In the overall composition of the earth, gold is more abundant than lead. But most of the gold is trapped in the Earth's mantle. This is the thick middle layer of our planet between the outer core and the Earth's crust. This gold is generally not accessible. However, there is also gold that virtually works its way to the surface. This is where mining companies can extract it.

Using mathematical models, researchers have now been able to identify the conditions that lead to the accumulation of gold-bearing magma. With this knowledge, miners could minimize costs and rationalize exploration work. After all, these costs account for 10 to 20 percent of the costs of gold mining. The average gold mining costs at the beginning of 2024 were around 1,500 US dollars per ounce. The gold comes up from the earth's mantle in the following way: A certain type of sulphur, which exists at a depth of 50 to 80 kilometers under active volcanoes, ensures that gold reaches the earth's surface. This is because the gold combines with the sulphur molecules, the result is very mobile and can be brought to the surface by geological events such as volcanic activity. This is particularly common in areas where one tectonic plate dives under another (subduction zones). There are many active volcanoes on Earth and they form above or in a subduction zone. A volcanic eruption is therefore similar to the formation of a gold deposit. GoldMining and Osisko Development have promising gold deposits.

GoldMining's - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/goldmining-inc/ - projects (gold and copper) are located in Canada, the USA, Brazil, Colombia and Peru. In addition, there are shares in Gold Royalty, U.S. GoldMining and NevGold.

The Cariboo gold project in Canada, the San Antonio gold project in Mexico and the Tintic project in the USA are particularly promising for Osisko Development - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/osisko-development-corp/ -.
