“Everyone at the Table!” The first-ever Food Policy for Canada

(PresseBox) (Fredericksburg, VA, )
The vision for the Food Policy of Canada is “All people in Canada are able to access a sufficient amount of safe, nutritious and culturally diverse food. Canada’s food system is resilient and innovative, sustains our environment, and supports our economy.”

This vision was created by working with Canadians all across the country. The ideas of various groups, including, food producers and processors, experts in environment, health and food security, Indigenous groups, non-government organizations, and community advocates were utilized by the Canadian government.

The government plans on investing millions of dollars to fund this policy. To start they plan on creating a Canadian Food Policy Advisory Council which will play a central role in the policy. Many more objectives and goals are expected to come from this new Food Policy. Many of these goals involve increasing access to safe, healthy, and diverse foods, preventing mislabelling of foods, and protecting consumers.

“The Food Policy for Canada is our roadmap for a healthier and more sustainable food system for our country. The investments and initiatives in the food policy will contribute to economic growth, better nutrition, and food security for all Canadians,” said Marie-Claude Bibeau, minister of agriculture and agri-food.

The Tentamus Group, in particular, Tentamus North America, offers various services to assist in compliance with Canada’s Food Regulations:
  • Product full label review for Canadian Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and Food and Drug Regulations compliance to prevent mislabelling
  • Product nutritional analysis and nutrition fact creation and review to prevent mislabelling
