Die kompakten Box-Industrie-PCs mit einer Grundfläche von nur 210 × 220 mm erhält man mit maximal 16 GB RAM und einer ab 500 GB großen S-ATA-Festplatte. Für sicherheitskritische und wartungsarme Applikationen kann die EL211x-Serie wahlweise mit einer zusätzlichen Festplatte oder einer SSD aufgerüstet werden. Platz für Erweiterungen bieten - je nach Modell - ein oder zwei Steckplätze für PCI und jetzt auch PCI-Express x16 sowie Mini PCIe (half size). Die umfangreichen Schnittstellen sind für die Schaltschrankmontage gut zugänglich und frontseitig ausgelegt. Sechs USB-Schnittstellen, davon vier nach der schnellen 3.0-Spezifikation, zwei serielle COM-Schnittstellen, zwei RJ45-Ports für Gigabit-Ethernet, PS/2, Audio-I/O sowie DVI, HDMI und Display-Port bieten fast grenzenlose Anbindungsmöglichkeiten.
Für den Dauereinsatz bei Umgebungstemperaturen bis 50 °C kann man die Box-PC direkt an der Maschine oder im Schaltschrank montieren. Dabei lässt sich das robuste, pulverbeschichtete Stahlblechgehäuse sowohl eben als auch auf Abstand montieren.
