Small, powerful and secure: ARM9™ Module TQMa28 with Wind River Intelligent Device Platform

(PresseBox) (Seefeld, )
At embedded world and on the basis of high-quality hardware including the TQ Minimodule TQMa28 in combination with Wind River Software technologies, TQ-Systems demonstrates how a provider can protect its devices quickly and effectively through the use of cyber security functions.

The TQMa28 is an extremely small, competitively priced and high-performance ARM9™ module which thanks to its interface versatility can be employed in a number of different areas such as energy, industrial automation, machine control systems, house automation, building automation as well as medical and measuring technology. In many of these applications and in addition to HMI and control tasks, a CPU module based on an operating system is also used as a gateway.

In the meantime, many system providers have recognized that they would like to avail themselves of the opportunities offered by the Internet of Things (IoT): through remote maintenance and remote control, they offer their customers added value, are able to lower servicing costs or establish themselves with new business models. Here, an aspect not to be overlooked is the ever increasing danger posed by cyber criminality.

Against this backdrop, a security adaptation based on the Wind River Intelligent Device Platform is now available for the Minimodule TQMa28. This platform is a scalable, sustainable and secure development environment that simplifies the development, integration and provision of gateway functions for the IoT. The Wind River Intelligent Device Platform offers a variety of options in the fields of device security, intelligent connectivity, network and device management.

The TQMa28 offers a high-performance basis for security functions: up to 256 MByte RAM and up to 4 GB of eMMC flash memory are available to the processor for program and data on the embedded module. The module's equipment is supplemented by a real-time clock for use with autarkic systems. All the externally usable processor signals are available on robust, industry-compatible connector strips on a 0.8 mm grid. The board's small size of just 40 x 26 mm2 is also noteworthy. During the development phase, priority was given to the long availability of the components and to high reliability even under unfavorable installation conditions.

The hardware and software presented by TQ-Systems enables system solutions to be implemented quickly and cheaply. Apart from the ARM modules available from TQ, the software solutions employed here can also be ported to Power Architecture™ or x86 solutions.
