The new TQ embedded module represents an important step forward for developers who want to use the Freescales QorIQ™ network technology with ARM® based modules. As the first processor of this category in the sector, the LS102xA, together with the new ARM® based bus system "Cache Coherent Interconnect" (CCI400), supports fast data transfer and virtualization. The new Layerscape™ architecture makes it possible to ideally link the ARM® computing core with the selection of interfaces of the Freescales QorlQ™ communication processors. This allows developers to create applications which both require lower energy consumption and also meet the demand for more secure and faster data communication.
The TQMLS102xA embedded module is tailor-made for the demands of systems developers who want to develop highly-efficient platforms on the latest system architecture for processing high data volume. The LS102xA system-on-chip provides an ARM Dual Cortex™-A7-CPU with ECC-protected L1 and L2 cache for maximum reliability. With a size of just 55mm x 44mm and an average power consumption of 3-5W, the TQMLS102xA embedded module is an ideal platform for applications in network technology, industrial control systems, M2M and internet-of-things (IoT) gateways. With the LCD controllers integrated into the LS1021A processor system developments can also be made, which meet the high demands on user-friendliness with a touchscreen display. Three CPU versions can be used with this module. They differ mainly by the interfaces available. This makes it possible to select the optimum function depending on the requirements.
All external signals of the TQMLS102xA are provided via industrial-standard terminal strips on a 0.8mm grid, which have been tried and tested at TQ for more than 15 years.
On 280 pins the user can use up to four Flex CAN for communication in addition to 3x Gigabit Ethernet, 2x PCIe Gen2, USB 3.0 and ten UARTs. Other functional units can be connected via SATA, SDIO, SPI, I2C and I2S.
On the TQMLS102xA embedded module, RAM with up to 2GByte DDR3L and up to 512 MByte Quad SPI NOR Flash has been implemented for programs and data. In addition to the NOR Flash, users also have up to 16 Gbyte of eMMC Flash available. The ECC Protection implemented on the embedded module guarantees the highest data security. The design is supplemented by an EEPROM and a small controller with integrated RTC for extra power management.
Due to the high interface integration, this ARM Dual Cortex™-A7 module can be used in a variety of areas of application, such as data storage systems, print technology, IoT gateways, in vehicle and railway technology, mobile routers as well as medical and measuring equipment. The QUICC engine technology implemented in the CPU also permits use in applications with Profibus.
With the starter kit the customer has a wide range of qualified connection examples. All the signal pins not directly used on the board are available on the multi-pin connectors in the starter kit.
A Linux BSP has been developed for the specific module and mainboard interfaces. An adjustment of QNX, Green Hills, VxWorks and PikeOS is also planned. This means that safety and security applications can be implemented.
With this module TQ has included the ground-breaking Layerscape™ CPU architecture in its product range. Customers can benefit from a powerful platform at attractive conditions.
