Special schools threatened with closure
Since 2010, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia closed more than 150 special schools as part of the introduction of inclusive education at regular schools. Despite a rethinking process in the new state government, the Ministry of Education expects that another approximately 30 special schools will be threatened with closure in the coming years. “For decades, special schools have been making a very successful contribution to the inclusion of people with disabilities, which, in this form, is often not possible for regular schools," says Wolfgang P. Albeck, CEO of trans-o-flex. “This is why, with our donation, we would like to draw the public’s attention to the importance of targeted education at special schools for the children's development and to the fact that these schools will continue to be necessary in the future, despite all the inclusion projects at regular schools.”
