trans-o-flex to launch test run of new nationwide pharmaceutical network in September

(PresseBox) (Weinheim, )
.
- Express delivery service has reached a milestone in the development of its ambient network
- Fully air-conditioned central hub
- The first vehicles have now been equipped with cooling boxes
- Double the capacity for active temperature-controlled transportation between 15 and 25°C

The trans-o-flex Schnell-Lieferdienst has succeeded in implementing the essential operational requirements for the launch of its new ambient network for the active temperature-controlled transportation of medicinal products in temperatures between 15 and 25°C. September will see the launch of a several week long test run, set to be operated under everyday conditions. This has been made possible by the fact that several key milestones in the development of the network have already been realised. These primarily include complete temperature control at the central hub in Kassel, air conditioning in the bonded warehouses and the installation of equipment for measuring and documenting the temperature at every location, which has then been connected to a centralised temperature monitoring system. The remaining work in these three areas will be completed over the coming weeks. Simultaneously, the production of active temperature-controlled cooling boxes for both standard vehicles and special thermo-vehicles is in full swing. The first of these boxes have already been installed in existing vehicles.

"We are also on schedule for this major project and will be able to start on the exact date we promised our customers last year," says Christian Knoblich, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing at trans-o-flex Logistics Group. "As a result, we have been, to date, the only logistics service provider to invest the substantial capital, know-how and workforce in developing a nationwide distribution system for medicinal products that satisfies the conditions of the new EU GDP." The company generates about half of its turnover from transportation and logistics services for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. The intensification of the EU rules on the transportation of medicinal products (EU GDP) acted as the impetus for redeveloping the trans-o-flex Schnell-Lieferdienst. Using the new network, trans-o-flex can ensure that, even in the face of the increasing demand for temperature-controlled transportation - which is, even now, readily apparent - there will be sufficient capacity available for the direct delivery of parcels and pallets.

The trans-o-flex Group already offers its customers a GDP-compliant transport solution for sensitive pharmaceutical products via the trans-o-flex ThermoMed system. This network currently transports both medicinal products that require a temperature range of between 2 and 8°C, as well as medications that require a range between 15 and 25°C. Thanks to the new ambient network and the considerably larger trans-o-flex Schnell-Lieferdienst, starting in autumn, the capacity for transporting at an ambient temperature will be raised incrementally to almost double of what it is now.

trans-o-flex Express GmbH & Co. KGaA

The success of the Europe-wide operating trans-o-flex Logistic Group is based on three pillars, the services of which can be perfectly combined with each other: 1. trans-o-flex Schnell-Lieferdienst offers a full-coverage network for the efficient and safe transportation of parcels and pallets (combi-freight) all over Germany. This also includes numerous additional services, such as the transportation of hazardous goods without being limited to small quantities. At the same time trans-o-flex, in its capacity as shareholder and partner of the Eurodis network, provides full-coverage combi-freight services in 34 European countries. The company has developed a large number of tailor-made solutions for specific sectors, e.g. for the pharmaceutical and home entertainment / consumer goods industries. 2. With a special network for active temperature control in the temperature ranges of between 2 and 8 °C as well as 15 and 25 °C, trans-o-flex ThermoMed takes over the transportation of temperature-sensitive goods for the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to this, ThermoMed, with its EUROTEMP network, also provides actively temperature-controlled transportation services in 15 countries in Europe. 3. Comprehensive logistic services from storage and picking/packing to value-added services, such as the set-up service for sales displays or electrical appliances, up to customer-specific transport networks are developed and implemented under the umbrella of trans-o-flex Logistik Service. In 2013, annual sales of the Group, which has a workforce of approximately 1,800 employees, amounted to ca. € 505 million. Since June 2008, trans-o-flex has been a 100-% subsidiary of Österreichische Post. For more information, go to www.trans-o-flex.com.
