Transmeta, US-amerikanischer Notebook- und Embedded-Prozessor-Hersteller, hat letzte Woche mit Chinese 2000 Holdings Ltd. einen Vertrag geschlossen: Der chinesische Computerhersteller wird auf der Basis von Midori Linux, Transmetas eigener Linux-Version, eine Reihe von innovativen Mobile- und Embedded-Produkten mit Transmetas energiesparenden Prozessoren für den chinesischen Markt und weitere Länder im asiatisch-pazifischen Raum entwickeln und vermarkten. Linux spielt in dieser Region als Betriebssystem eine sehr wichtige Rolle. Wichtige Zielmärkte für die neuen Linux-basierten Notebooks, Ultra Personal Computers (UPCs) und Set-Top-Boxen mit Transmeta-Chips werden daher neben China vor allem auch Hong Kong, Macau und Tawain sein.
