Required before any telecom product intended for use or sale can be imported into the country, the MTCTE program also covers the more than 200 million items of telecom equipment already connected to the Indian Telecom network. It represents a tremendous opportunity for testing and certification organizations and laboratories – especially TÜV Rheinland, which has built up the competencies and infrastructure to support OEMs, designers and manufacturers, and enable them to reduce product developmental cycles and improve speed-to-market.
“We are proud to be associated with the TEC and help in the implementation of specifications and standards for India’s telecommunication sector. Our state-of-the-art laboratory in Bangalore is already a designated and accredited Conformity Assessment Body (CAB). With this recognition, the Gurgaon laboratory is now fully capable of carrying out independent tests that contribute to the development of modern and efficient telecom networks and the use of interoperable, standards-compliant devices as per MTCTE regulations,” said Thomas Fuhrmann, Managing Director, TÜV Rheinland India.
As a technical and regulatory body for telecom products in India, the TEC represents the interests of the Ministry of Communications’ Department of Telecom (DoT). Under the MTCTE program, the actual testing is carried out by designated labs, such as TÜV Rheinland’s Gurgaon facility, and the TEC issues certificates based on the resulting reports.
“After the Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), the MTCTE program represents a significant development by the TEC to regulate telecom equipment in India. TÜV Rheinland’s laboratories have the accreditation and advanced equipment necessary to offer testing services in Wireless IoT, EMI, EMC, electrical safety, cybersecurity and other requirements prescribed by the TEC,” said Stefan Kischka, Vice President Wireless/ Internet of Things at TÜV Rheinland.
His view is echoed by Kalyan Varma, Vice President, Business Stream Products-IMEA, TÜV Rheinland. “TÜV Rheinland is adept at handling multiple requests for product testing from both local and international telecom equipment manufacturers. With this latest recognition, we are dedicated to supporting the TEC in its mission to achieve the goals of the MTCTE program,” he said.
