ÖLFLEX® DC ESS SC for the energy revolution

New products from LAPP at the SPS trade fair

(PresseBox) (Stuttgart, )
The use of direct current is an important element for achieving our climate targets. A smart Grid for the industry based on direct current would eliminate the step of conversion between direct current and alternating current that has been needed until now, and would enable energy savings of 20 percent or more. LAPP is therefore a pioneer when it comes to direct current cabling and already has a cable portfolio for a wide range of applications. To top off the offer, the company will be presenting the new ÖLFLEX® DC ESS SC at the SPS trade fair (Hall 2, stand 310).

The ÖLFLEX® DC ESS SC is a halogen-free, highly flame-retardant single core cable for direct current applications up to 1.5 kV, particularly for use in energy storage systems (ESS). The use of electron beam cross-linked polymer compounds gives the insulation and sheath materials of the ÖLFLEX® DC ESS SC increased resistance to oils, fuels, alkalis and acids. This promotes the durability of the cable at high temperatures or high current loads and ensures good dielectric strength and short circuit temperatures. The cable is also extremely weatherproof (up to -40°C) and suitable for permanent outdoor use, regardless of whether it is used in dry, damp or wet environments. Thanks to its fine-wire, flexible conductor design, it also offers excellent installation properties. The new ÖLFLEX® DC ESS SC is available in conductor cross-sections of up to 400 mm2 and thanks to its excellent properties in the event of fire, it is also suitable for indoor installations, particularly in energy storage systems (ESS).

LAPP is heavily involved in developing connection solutions suitable for direct current. As a partner in the DC Industry2 project supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, LAPP is currently researching the long-term stability of insulation materials for cables. Initial research work by LAPP in collaboration with the Ilmenau University of Technology has shown that certain insulation materials are less suitable for permanent DC applications. Based on these findings, the global market leader for integrated connection systems was the first in the world to present its DC portfolio. This includes the ÖLFLEX® DC 100 with new core colour coding according to the DIN EN 60445 (VDE 0197) standard for direct current cables, which was updated in 2018. Other cables include the ÖLFLEX® DC SERVO 700 for stationary applications and the ÖLFLEX® DC CHAIN 800 made of TPE for moving applications, or the first DC robot cable ÖLFLEX® DC ROBOT 900 with core insulation made of TPE and a sheath made of PUR. This makes LAPP a pioneer in developing cables for low-voltage direct current networks for industrial applications.

Other new products from LAPP at SPS

Alongside the new ÖLFLEX® DC ESS SC, LAPP will be presenting numerous new products at SPS: For industrial machinery and the plant engineering sector, there are two new sizes for the SKINTOP® MULTI-M multi-entry systems and a SKINTOP® MULTI Flange FL21 flange plate, as well as the low capacitance and UL-certified PVC servo cable ÖLFLEX® SERVO 2XLCY-JB and the UNITRONIC® FD CP plus A, a highly flexible, shielded, PUR low frequency data transmission cable for use in cable chains and industrial robots – also available with twisted pair stranding. For industrial communication, LAPP is presenting three new patch cables: ETHERLINE® Torsion CAT.6A for robot use, ETHERLINE® FLEX Cat.6A for flexible use, and ETHERLINE® FLEX Cat.5e for cable chain use, all with ECE R 118 approval. The product range also includes the EPIC® DATA TS GOF, an adapter for fast connection of patch cables and installation cables in control cabinets. The new halogen-free and shielded single core cable ÖLFLEX® TRAIN 4 GKW  is available for railway technology and the detectable FLEXIMARK® cable label for the food industry, which is resistant to hot water and steam.
