Ralf George Wittor from Eickhoff Antriebstechnik will open the three-day event with an introductory talk. This will be followed by an international panel discussion on the future of the mechanical gears and drives industry with well-known experts from Japan, China, Italy, Germany and the USA. Some of the guests to look forward to include Joe T. Franklin Jr. from AGMA, USA and Sonia Bonfiglioli, Chairman and CEO of the Italian company Bonfiglioli Riduttori. Professor Changle Xiang from the Beijing Institute of Technology and Professor Aizoh Kubo from the Research Institute for Applied Sciences Kyoto, Japan will be representing the Asian region. Following the panel discussion, the VDI-Gesellschaft Produktion und Prozessgestaltung's (The Association of German Engineers Society for Product and Process Design) Gustav Niemann Prize for outstanding academic achievements by recent technical graduates, worth 6,000 Euro, will be awarded.
Four simultaneous events with more than 124 lectures offer numerous possibilities to international specialists to exchange views on current developments in the sector. Among other things, the lectures will discuss the various industrial uses of transmissions and improvements within production processes. The conference attendees will also be able to discover various test methods to determine the efficiency of drives for example or to scale fatigue testing time, as well as the employment of new materials.
Speakers and participants will travel from over 30 countries to attend this event, organised by the VDI Wissensforum GmbH. Supported by 13 renowned partner organisations including the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA), the British Gear Association (BGA), the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME), every three years this event provides an important platform for manufacturers, producers and researchers in the gears and transmissions sector. As usual, the conference takes place at the same time as the Oktoberfest - two of the largest events in Munich in October.
