Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRCY) announced the formation of Visage Imaging, its wholly owned subsidiary for the life sciences and medical businesses.
As an independent operating entity, Visage Imaging will be more effectively positioned to deliver Mercury’s distinct expertise in advanced visualization, and its expanding portfolio of imaging and visualization products and services, to a growing roster of international OEM and clinical partners. As an example, Visage™, Mercury’s end-to-end image management and distribution line, will be offered along with amira®, its multifaceted software framework that enables users to visualize, manipulate, and analyze complex data sets for biomedical imaging research.
Visage Imaging’s customizable solutions enhance the complete medical imaging workflow, with advanced tools for 2D, 3D, and 4D image interpretation, post-processing, management and distribution that are not bound to specific workstations and become accessible directly within the PACS workflow.
“There’s a growing need for transparent access to 2D, 3D and even 4D medical imaging data from anywhere inside or outside the hospital enterprise,” said Keith Dreyer, M.D., Ph.D., and Vice-Chairman of Radiology - Informatics at Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Harvard Medical School. “Mercury’s 3D-enabled thin-client technology provides a completely integrated clinical workflow with instant access to all diagnostic image data – and removes the technical barriers between different modalities and clinical departments.”
Clinical partners around the world are collaborating with Visage Imaging, including the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Benjamin Franklin. Scientists and engineers from both entities are working together to optimize the visualization and management of medical image data for modern imaging procedures such as computed tomography (CT) angiography, and whole-body MR (magnetic resonance) imaging.
