“I am very happy about this important recognition and I am proud to be able to help increasing road safety in Dubai as a partner,” says Youssef Al Hansali, CEO of VITRONIC Machine Vision Middle East LLC. Ten mobile and 17 fixed PoliScanspeed systems for speed enforcement are currently operating on Dubai’s roads. The Dubai Police’s recent statistics show that the VITRONIC systems generate significantly more cases than competitors’ systems. Speeders are reliably caught which has already led to a change in driver behavior since speed enforcement has started in Dubai. The Dubai Police is confident that their goal to drop fatalities to zero in the next ten years is achievable.
Poliscanspeed systems operate with a LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) based measuring principle. A scanning laser is used to measure the speeds and position of every vehicle in the tracking zone. This way violations can be identified on multiple lanes at the same time, even if vehicles tailgate or change lanes. Other than radar the laser-based measurement operates without any difficulties in curves or road-work areas.
