In dem Papier "Energie 2020" formuliert die Kommission fünf Kernpunkte anhand derer in den nächsten 18 Monaten konkrete Gesetzesvorschläge erarbeitet werden. Die Prioritäten sind gerichtet auf: Energieeinsparungen, Schaffung eines europäischen Energiebinnenmarktes, verbesserte Zusammenarbeit mit Drittländern, Förderung der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit Europas hinsichtlich Energietechnologien und verstärkte Transparenz auf dem Strommarkt.
Mit konkreten Maßnahmen will die Kommission diesen Herausforderungen begegnen und die ambitionierten Energie- und Klimaschutzziele erreichen.
