6th International FITBONE® User Meeting: FITBONE® users get together to exchange experiences

(PresseBox) (Igersheim, )
The 6th FITBONE® User Meeting was held in Munich (Germany) from November 26 to 28, 2015. Twenty-six participants from nine countries worldwide – all members of the international COE (Center of Excellence) network, comprised of specially trained experts in the field of extremity surgery – got together to exchange their experiences with FITBONE®, the fully implantable, intramedullary lengthening nail. They took advantage of this unique opportunity to learn more about the latest treatment options available with the FITBONE® – as well as recent technological advances, different surgical techniques and patient friendly preparation and follow-up care – in some twenty presentations and discussion forums.

The User Meeting was organized by WITTENSTEIN intens GmbH, Igersheim, in cooperation with ZEM Germany (Center for Corrective and Reconstructive Surgery of Extremities) in Munich, the German Center of Excellence and training center for FITBONE® procedures run by Professor Rainer Baumgart.

The presentations and discussions centered around the various treatment options which are available with the FITBONE® system. This intramedullary nail can not only be employed very effectively to lengthen the femur and tibia; it also achieves excellent results, for example, when used to renew the bone by bone transport following tumour resections, as a telescope active actuator for MUTARS® growing prostheses or to treat indications like short residual limbs. Extremity corrections undertaken on children were a subject which attracted particular interest. Some attendees also described rarer, but similarly successful, operations such as procedures to lengthen the humerus or to treat teenagers and adults with open epiphyseal plates.

FITBONE®: Highest-quality leg lengthening and extremity correction treatment

"FITBONE® is a fully implantable system for leg lengthening and extremity correction that combines uncomplicated and largely painless treatment without any risk of infection with perfect cosmetic results", Professor Baumgart explains. In addition to these specific FITBONE® benefits, proper qualification of the surgeon in leg lengthening and extremity correction based on this method is crucial not only for successful operations but also for patient acceptance worldwide. "The dialogue which takes place at these User Meetings between experienced surgeons in the steadily growing user network is an important element of our qualification activities", adds Roman Stauch, Managing Director WITTENSTEIN intens GmbH.
