WSCAD Unveils an Impressive Array of Upgrades and Enhancements to its Electrical Engineering Solution at the Hanover Trade Show

(PresseBox) (Bergkirchen, )
.
- P&ID - the new tool for process engineering
- wscaduniverse.com - the new library for symbols and manufactured parts for WSCAD and EPLAN* customers
- Macro variants for faster design changes
- Date import from other CAD systems via Microsoft* Excel slashes engineering time, especially at the beginning of a new project
- Detailed user rights feature increases overall project security and quality
- Performance and speed of the software solution have been boosted

WSCAD electronic GmbH is unveiling a new logo and corporate identity at the Hannover Trade Show and announcing an upgrade with a wide range of new functions for its Electrical Engineering Solution. The company's popular and cost-effective entry-level licenses will still be available.

P&ID - Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams for Process Engineering
The new P&ID module allows process engineers and designers to create piping and instrumentation diagrams. The module intelligently links points of measurement and devices to schematic circuit diagrams and other engineering disciplines. By keeping these logical relationships, system errors can be quickly detected and eliminated also because each measuring point has a unique, sequential number. Schematics and drawings can be imported from *.dxf or *.dwg files, made intelligent, and 'brought to life.' All symbols reference to the central WSCAD database. Therefore temperature sensors or level indicators created in P&ID diagrams can be used directly in schematic circuit diagrams or in the electrical installation. Changes are automatically applied across the various engineering disciplines within the project. This accelerates development, increases transparency of the overall engineering design and prevents mistakes.

The WSCAD parts and symbols library contains over one million data records from different manufacturers and is probably the largest such data library on the market. It has now been completely reengineered to significantly improve handling and performance with huge amounts of data. Search functions and filter options have also been enhanced. But the most important new feature is that along with WSCAD users also users of EPLAN* software will now benefit from this data library and its expanding content. They can simply import the symbols and articles in their EPLAN* schematics. A simple registration and activation process is all that's needed. At no cost, for free!

Macro Variants and Material Data Import
Macros are templates for schematic diagrams. They usually consist of one or more symbols and corresponding parts such as motors, feeders, circuit breakers, contactors, terminals or cables. Users can create diagrams by simply positioning macros in their schematic diagrams thus saving huge amounts of time. Now, they can also define macro variants, saving even more time. For example, a macro called 'Pump A' could consist of a 5-kW pump including all accompanying products/articles and their data; whereas the macro 'Pump B' contains the same information, but for a 25-kW pump. For macros already positioned in the schematic diagram, switching from variant A to vartiant B is just a matter of seconds.

"A high degree of standardization and the reuse of existing elements mean that schematic diagrams and documents can be created very fast while significantly increasing the quality," says Michael Widmann, head of product management at WSCAD.

Importing Material Data: users can now import Excel spreadsheets from virtually every CAD-software into WSCAD receiving information such as function text, equipment identifier, product/parts data or calculated values. During the import process, the data is automatically synchronized with the WSCAD database. As a result a new cabinet layout or bill of material can now be created before the circuit diagram. This feature is extremely helpful and saves a lot of time especially at the beginning of a new project.

Performance and User Administration
More features have been added to assigning user rights across various engineering disciplines. Privileges are now assigned for a discipline or a project: a project can be protected against unauthorized access or accidental changes, or parts data can be protected by blocking editing rights for certain users or user groups. This feature increases the overall security of the projects. But it also enables international project teams to manage their data across various engineering disciplines and locations.

Software performance is a high priority for WSCAD: zooming in and out of circuit diagrams has been boosted significantly, PDF convertion/export is now three times faster, selection of items is four times faster, and opening pages takes 30 percent less time. The new WSCAD solution also uses the power of 64-bit Windows* operating systems, increasing potential memory capacity to 16 million GB. The old Windows* 32-bit system was limited to 4 GB of RAM. 64-bit practically removes the necessity to swap data on the hard drive thus boosting the overall performance of WSCAD software even more.

"We're watching market trends very closely, staying in touch with our customers and listening to their needs," says Axel Zein, CEO of WSCAD electronic GmbH. "Much of what we know and what customers told us in our recent customer survey is now part of our Electrial Engineering Solution. By closely tailoring our solution to their needs we can help our customers to get their job done and deliver the greatest possible benefit. That applies equally to those using our affordable basic licenses as well as to customers using the complete array of professional functions in our modular and scalable Electrial Engineering Suite."
