Die Gesellschaft für Alternative Ingenieurtechnische Anwendungen, kurz GAIA mbH, zählt zu den Pionieren der Erneuerbaren Energien in Südwestdeutschland. Mit dem Ziel, einen Beitrag zum Klimaschutz und zur Energiewende zu leisten, gründeten Michael Wahl und Torsten Szielasko 1999 das Unternehmen zunächst als Planungsbüro für den Bau von Windenergieanlagen. Heute plant, projektiert und realisiert GAIA, als Generalunternehmen und als Dienstleister für Kooperationspartner, Windkraftanlagen in Rheinland-Pfalz, im Saarland und in Hessen. Zu den Kooperationspartnern zählen EnBW Erneuerbare Energien GmbH, eine Tochtergesellschaft des Energieversorgers EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Vattenfall Europe Windkraft GmbH, eine Tochtergesellschaft des Energieversorgers Vattenfall, sowie die wpd onshore GmbH & Co. KG aus Bremen, einer der größten deutschen Projektierer von Windenergieanlagen.

Weitere Geschäftsfelder des Unternehmens sind die technische und kaufmännische Betriebsführung von Windenergie- und Photovoltaikanlagen, die Planung und Errichtung von Dach- und Freiflächen-Photovoltaikanlagen sowie von Ladestationen für die E-Mobilität. Derzeit beschäftigt das mittelständische Unternehmen 61 hoch qualifizierte Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter.
