Containers for bulk goods must be impermeable to moisture. Media-tightness is required for the transport of liquids. As part of production-integrated quality control, these are tested for leaks in the production cycle. Compressed air is often used for this purpose.
Leak testing large-volume products in the production process and detecting of small holes in an acceptable total testing time is associated with various technical measurement challenges. The containers expand when they are pressurised. Filling large-volume containers to the test pressure takes quite a long time. In addition, the test process can be influenced by the preceding thermal blowing process due to temperature effects.
The leak tester CETATEST 715 LV (Large Volume) was specially developed for the requirements of the packaging industry. The entire test sequence is controlled via the test device. The additional turbo filling function enables fast, automatic filling to the test pressure. Integrated, fast-switching protective circuits protect the tester and the device's internal sensors if the test part bursts. In the case of flexible products, a stable measuring regime is achieved by mechanically limiting the expansion behaviour. For example, IBCs are tested in the transport grid box and additional hold-down elements are used. Temperature influences can be compensated using a preceding temperature measurement and switching to appropriately parameterised test programs. The test pressures are between 25 mbar and 160 mbar, depending on the product, and the typical volumes of the containers are between 0.1 l and approx. 1,200 l.
With the CETATEST 715 LV, a 1,000 l IBC can be tested for leaks in less than 30 seconds. Depending on the test part volume, holes from 0.07 mm to 1 mm in size can be reliably detected.
Due to a large number of available interfaces, the test device can be integrated into automated production lines and is prepared for Industry 4.0 requirements. The transfer of important test process data enables traceability and analyses of production quality. The CETATEST 715 LV is used very successfully worldwide by well-known customers in the packaging industry for industrial quality control.
The CETATEST 715 LV, like all CETA test devices and calibration standards (e.g. test leaks and master jets), is supplied with an internationally recognised calibration certificate (compliant with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025) and a 3-year warranty as standard and at no extra charge.
CETA also offers free, practice-orientated online seminars in German and English on industrial leak and flow testing. This supports users in the realisation of their projects. Further information on the online seminars (topics, content, registration) can be found on the CETA homepage (www.cetatest.com).
CETA will be exhibiting for the first time at the Fachpack 2024 trade fair from 24 - 26 September 2024 in Nuremberg, Germany in hall 2, stand number 2-428 in the Newcomer Pavillon.
