Leak test of large and small volume containers in the production process

(PresseBox) (Hilden, )
In the packaging industry, plastic containers are used for the storage and transport of liquid media. Hereby bottles, canisters, drums and IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers) are used, which cover a large volume range from approx. 0.5 l to 1,200 l. Ideally, these have to be tested for leaks in the cycle of the production process. Due to the good availability, compressed air is often used as test medium.

Various challenges arise: For example, the containers expand considerably when having been pressurized. Filling large-volume products to the test pressure requires special solutions to ensure that the filling process is not too long. In addition, the testing process can be influenced by the upstream blow molding process due to temperature effects.

The leak tester CETATEST 715 LV (Large Volume) has been developed especially for the packaging industry and has been successfully introduced to the market.

After the start impulse of the system control the complete test sequence is controlled by the test device. The option turbo-filling allows a fast and automatic filling to the required test pressure. Integrated protective circuits protect the test part and the device-internal sensors. To achieve a stable measuring state, the expansion behaviour must be limited. For example, IBCs are tested in the transport grid box and additional hold-down devices are used. Temperature effects can be successfully compensated by switching over to accordingly parameterised test programs. For this purpose, the temperature of the test part is measured in the test stand and the appropriate test program is selected.

The test pressures are in the range of approx. 25 mbar to 160 mbar (depending on the product). With the CETATEST 715 LV the leak test of a 1,000 l IBC can be carried out in a total test time of less than 30 s, whereby a good separation and repeatability is achieved. Depending on the test part volume, holes with a size of 0.07 mm to 1 mm can be detected reliably.

Due to a multitude of available industrial interfaces, the test device is prepared for Industry 4.0 requirements. The transmission of the measured values to the control system enables traceability and evaluation of the production quality.

The CETATEST 715 LV is delivered as standard with an internationally recognized calibration certificate (in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025) and a 3 years warranty.

CETA will exhibit at the Control 2020 fair from 05 - 08 May 2020, Stuttgart (hall 7, booth 7207)

CETA Testsysteme GmbH

Solution Partner for industrial Leak Testing and Flow Measurement

The company CETA Testsysteme GmbH was founded in 1988 and is now existing more than 30 years. We are a manufacturer of physical measurement devices for leak testing and flow measurement. Compressed air and hydrogen are used as test media. These testing procedures can be integrated in the production line with high process reliability.

The test devices ("Made in Germany") are the company's own developments and the components and accessories (e.g. calibration standards) are manufactured in-house. This ensures that the high quality requirements for the internal modules are met right from the start.

Due to different test device technologies and a wide scope of pressure and measurement ranges nearly every test requirement can be fulfilled. An integrated control of the correct test device function guarantees a high standard of process reliability. The scope of products also includes semi-automatic test stands. The test devices are used by the customers for quality assurance, quality control and production assurance. The customers come mostly from the fields of automotive industry, medical technology, heating and air-conditioning industry, fittings and household appliances industry, packaging industry and E-Mobility.

The company is certified according to DIN ISO 9001 and won the quality award NRW in the category Industry. The calibration laboratory has been accredited 2004 as DKD calibration laboratory and 2014 as DAkkS calibration laboratory by the Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) - as follower of DKD. DAkkS calibration (in accordance with the standard DIN EN ISO 17025) complies with the requirements of the ISO / TS 16949 standard, valid in the automotive industry. CETA Testsysteme GmbH is the first German manufacturer of leak-testers whose devices are serially supplied with DKD/DAkkS calibration since 2004.

Since 2012 CETA has been certified by "an outstanding credit rating".

The wide range of services includes consulting, feasibility analysis, commissioning, training, maintenance and calibration.

With cooperation partners in China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Thailand, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Hungary and with thousands of test devices in use all over the world, CETA Testsysteme GmbH presents itself as a competent solution partner for industrial leak testing and flow measurement.
