Für eine prognostizierte Weltbevölkerung von knapp 10 Milliarden Menschen wird bis 2050 eine zusätzliche Agrarfläche von etwa der Größe Brasiliens benötigt. Das übertrifft die real verfügbaren Flächenpotenziale um etwa das Zehnfache. Eine Lösung könnte die urbane Landwirtschaft im industriellen Maßstab unter Erschließung der Fassaden darstellen. Dazu berichten aktuell die Süddeutsche Zeitung (Wochenendausgabe) und die renommierte DETAIL – Zeitschrift für Architektur und Baudetail – über zwei Forschungsverbundprojekte des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) und des Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) mit jeweiliger Leitung an der Hochschule Kaiserslautern. Im Fokus steht dabei die Entwicklung eines neuartigen industrienahen Photobioreaktors als vertikales Agrarsystem zur Kultivierung von Mikroalgen am Gebäude. Neben einem interdisziplinären Forschungsteam der Hochschule Kaiserslautern am Campus Pirmasens sind weitere Professoren der Hochschulen Augsburg, Trier und der TU Kaiserslautern in die Forschungsprojekte (www.next-biofilm.de) involviert.
