Frame in Coil Rail design
The Kögel Cargo Coil Rail comes with a highly stable, lightweight steel frame with a shaped coil trough and a 120 mm high frame neck. The gripper edges integrated into the frame, a gripper jaw tarpaulin protection made from aramid fabric and special axles in a rail design allow loading the Cargo Coil Rail onto rails. This design makes the trailer ideal for flexible loading on the most prevalent rail pocket wagons. Coils and split strips with a diameter of 900 to 2,100 millimetres and a maximum distributed load of 30 tonnes can be transported in the 7,200 millimetre long standard coil trough. This allows a total rail weight of up to 45 tonnes, subject to special approval. For load-securing, two pairs of stake pockets are fitted as standard in the coil trough, one pair of stake pockets at the front end of the trough and one pair at a distance of approximately 2,050 millimetres to hold square pipe stanchions. The exhibited trailer is equipped with an optional six pairs of stake pockets in the coil trough. The VarioFix external perforated steel frame is equipped with 24 pairs of lashing rings instead of the standard 13 pairs, each ring affording 4,000 kg of tensile force around the centre of gravity of the payload. 16 coil trough covers ensure that the coil trough can be covered quickly and safely. The floor load-bearing capacity of the coil trough covers is designed to withstand high fork-lift axle loads of up to 5,460 kilograms.
Variable FlexiUse body for a wide range of applications
A modular system also makes it possible to use the familiar variable body from the Kögel FlexiUse with the Cargo Coil Rail.
The body includes six front settings, each adjustable by 50 mm, and four rear settings, each adjustable by 50 mm. This means that the body heights can be independently adjusted by 300 mm at the front and 200 mm at the rear. This allows everyday goods transport with an internal height of 2,450 millimetre to 2,750 millimetre at the front and 2,550 millimetre to 2,750 millimetre at the rear. The closing support bow on the roof ensures that the aluminium back wall portal double door with optimised door seal, which is a standard fitting for the Cargo with FlexiUse body, is adjusted to the respective body height. The body naturally meets the body stability standards of DIN EN 12642 Code XL, making any additional load-securing unnecessary for form-fitted loads.
New double codification
On the IAA exhibit, the FlexiUse body permits the issue and attachment of two rail codifications, as it does for all Kögel curtain-sider trucks without drop sides. Either the P385 codification for a maximum internal height of 2,550 mm or the P400 codification with a maximum internal height of 2,700 mm applies, depending on the set body height. The semi-trailer can therefore be used on a wide variety of railway lines.
Heavy-duty RoRo equipment
If required, the Kögel Cardo is also available with heavy-duty RoRo equipment for unaccompanied transport by ship and ferry. This includes a diagonal reinforcement between the side member and external frame, a 10 mm closed sliding plate, a 10 mm fifth-wheel plate, two suction valves and four pairs of heavy-duty lashing ring with 12,000 kilograms of test force. One pair of the RoRo lashing rings is positioned further to the left and right, on the front section of the frame in the area of the king pin.
Perfect load-securing with Kögel Coilfix
The Cargo Coil Rail is also available with the Kögel Coilfix load-securing system as an option. The Coilfix system consists of a tension beam, four square pipe insertable stakes with heavy-duty hooks and receptacles for spacer tubes, two spacer tubes as well as three slings and lashing straps for diagonal tensioning. This guarantees form-fit load-securing. The flat contact of the tension beam and the stakes prevents damage to the coils and split strips.
More individual equipment options
As well as the above individual equipment options, the IAA exhibit also displays additional accessories. To secure the load, there are eight pairs of stake pockets on the external frame, as well as the previously mentioned eight pairs of stake pockets in the coil trough for square pipe insertable stakes. There are also two stake pockets fitted in each of two positions in the side member within the front section, which can be used instead of the front wall. All the stake pockets in the centre of the vehicle are also fitted with plastic inserts. To protect the interior of the front wall from damage in everyday use, it is reinforced with a two millimetre thick and 1,250 millimetre high galvanised steel panel and an additional five millimetre thick and 500 millimetre high steel panel riveted to the floor. The rear of the vehicle is also equipped with reinforced steel rubber bumpers for enhanced bump protection. Further protection is added by an eight-millimetre-thick lateral steel bracket across the entire width, as well as locking cam protection centrally mounted on the end plate of the frame. Further special equipment includes a monitor for checking brake wear, an odometer, a bellows pressure gauge for monitoring the axle load, a fire extinguisher, LED reversing light, and more.
Cathodic dip-paint coating: lasting protection from corrosion
On the Kögel Cargo Coil Rail, the entire vehicle frame is given long-lasting protection against corrosion by nano ceramic and cathodic dip-paint coating, supplemented with a coat of UV varnish.
